Until yesterday, North Carolina was assessing interest on any taxes due April 15th, 2020, even though the tax deadline was moved to July 15, 2020 for 2019 tax returns.  After much lobbying by the North Carolina Association of CPAs, the state of North Carolina has waived interest on any taxes originally due April 15th and paid by July 15th, 2020 !

The new law signed by Governor Roy Cooper applies to underpayments of individual income, corporate income, and franchise tax on tax returns due to be filed between April 15, 2020, through July 15, 2020.  The relief also applies to estimated income tax payments due between the same dates.

Each state has made its own changes, so check your state here before assuming the deadline or waiver of penalties and interest on tax due.
